Ratti Gali Lake is a beautiful and famous lake in the Neelum Valley of Azad Kashmir. The lake is 12,130 feet (3,697 meters) above sea level and is solely a 19-kilometer (12-mile) long track. The lake is serene and beautiful. We visited around 12 p.m. and found the area relatively uncrowded. The 4-hour jeep ride will take you to the base camp. From there, you have the option to take a horse ride to the lake or trek on foot.

The hike was one of the most beautiful ever done! It takes about 2-3 hours. The lake is clean and peaceful. At the top, you can enjoy boiled eggs and delicious Qahwa (Pakistani green tea). The hike back down is pretty easy, and better to walk than to take horses since it gets steep in some places.

The lake is fed by streams from neighboring glaciers and melting snow from nearby mountains. The trip to Ratti Gali Lake is accessible from Dowarian via a bank and an unpaved jeep track.

To reach the Ratti Gali base camp, we had to go off-roading for 4 hours in 4×4 jeeps from Kel. We used a Pajero (8 to 10 people can sit), which was very comfortable and cost you Rs. 12,000 to Rs. 15,000. The road was the worst seen in all of Kashmir! The views are amazing and keep you entertained.
