Besal serves as the base camp for the trek. Travelers with private vehicles can drive directly to Besal and utilize the available parking facilities. For those relying on public transportation, the following local non-air-conditioned vans are available:
Take a van from Pirwadhai Mandi Mor (Rawalpindi) to Mansehra. The fare is approximately 500 Rs.
From the Mansehra bus terminal, board another van to Naran. The journey takes approximately four hours and costs 550 Rs.
In Naran, there are no local vans available. However, at the end of Naran Bazar, a taxi stand is located after the metal bridge. Travelers typically share taxis to continue their journey. For example, a pooled taxi to Besal costs approximately 400 Rs per person.
Besal offers a variety of accommodation options. Several established camping sites are available, with each tent accommodating up to four persons at rates ranging from 1000 to 2000 Rs per tent.
Additionally, family rooms are available at rates between 2500 and 4500 Rs per room.
Several restaurants offer both traditional (Desi) and fast food options.
Ample parking is available, and visitors may also set up their own tents free of charge.
As of August 2025, mobile signals are unavailable at Besal. However, there are reports that Telenor may install a tower in 2025 or 2026.
Satellite Wi-Fi internet is available. For example, 1 GB of data costs 200 Rs and is valid for three days.
Electricity is available 24 hours a day at Moon Restaurant and Butt Karahi Restaurant.

The trail to Dudipatsar is located in Besal, about a 2-hour drive from Naran. The road is accessible by cars and motorbikes. From Besal onwards, visitors trek through vast alpine meadows and past beautiful glaciers to reach Mullah Basti, a campsite on the route to the lake. It’s easy to do the Dudipatsar Lake Trek; it’s a moderate 6-7-hour hike, depending on one’s fitness level. A relatively comfortable, almost straight trek of around 2 hours, farther from Mullah ka Basti, takes one to this gorgeous alpine lake.

Mid-June through mid-September is the only time the lake is open. During the trek, visitors from across the country feast their eyes on the enchanting views reflected in the mirrored water. The last accessible spot for any vehicle is Besal, which can be reached by car or by renting one in Naran. To reach the Dudipatsar Lake Trip Tour, one must trek for 7 hours through vast alpine meadows.
Approximately 5 hours from the starting point lies Mulla Basti, a good place to stay for the night. So, Dudipatsar Lake is reached after a two-hour trek. Despite its length, the trek is accessible: you walk through lush green meadows and less-steep mountains.
At an elevation of 3,800 meters, the lake’s water is a beautiful greenish-blue and extremely cold. You’ll find snow patches in the shady dales on the surrounding mountains. Wild populations are found in the Western Himalayan shrub and meadow ecoregion. So, it is of significant ecological importance to residents and migrating waterfowl, who nest and breed on the lake.

Many fishermen love to fish for brown trout in Dudipatsar. So, you will need a fishing license and equipment to get a hold of some delicious trout. Fish populations in the lake declined sharply due to illegal dynamite and net fishing.
