The Hopper Valley (Urdu: وادی ہوپر), also known as Hopar Valley, is a part of the Nagar Valley located in Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan. It lies about 10 km away from Nagar Khas, which is the main city of the Nagar Valley. Hopper Valley is renowned for the Spantik and Hopper glaciers.
Hopper Valley includes a collection of villages situated within a natural bowl along a bend of the Baltoro Glacier. Opposite Hopper, the white Bualtar Glacier intersects with the Barpu Glacier. This area serves as a base camp for trekking expeditions to the towering, glacier-covered summits of the Hispar Muztagh range. The residents of this valley communicate in the Burushaski language.
The valley boasts various natural features, including glaciers, lakes, and towering mountains.
There are five notable glaciers in the valley: the Hoper glacier, Barpu glacier, Miar glacier, Daranci glacier, and Geentur or Supulter glacier.
Rush Lake Hopper stands out as the most frequented tourist attraction in the valley. Located in Hoper Valley of Nagar District, Gilgit Baltistan, Pakistan, it is positioned at an altitude of over 4,694 meters, in the vicinity of Rush Peak. Rush Lake is among the highest alpine lakes globally and holds the title of the second-highest lake in South Asia. Surrounding the area are lush pastures that host both domesticated and wild animals, including local species such as goats, yaks, and sheep, as well as wildlife like the Himalayan ibex, red deer, foxes, and snow leopards. The chakour, regarded as Pakistan’s national bird, can also be found here.
The valley features numerous majestic mountains, including Golden Peak or Spantik (7027 m), Bawalter Peak (7126 m), where the Hoper glacier originates, Rush Peak, and Miar Peak (7257 m). From Rush Peak, one can also observe a range of other mountains like K2, Passu Peak, Diran Peak, and Rakaposhi.
